5 Commonly Overlooked Warehouse Safety Hazards
–Philip J Reed, on behalf of HP Spartacote
It’s not just a matter of lifting heavy boxes and items easily; it’s a matter of life and death. People are injured every day by lifting things improperly, and that’s not the worst of it: people are crushed, paralyzed and even killed as a result. A lifetime of improper lifting can result in serious physical incapacitation down the line, and it only takes one unfortunate incident to keep you from ever entering the workplace again. Be aware of proper lifting techniques. Use your legs and not your bag. Lift in smooth, constant motion. Never be too proud to ask for help. If it’s too heavy to lift safely by hand, use a piece of equipment. Utilize back braces or other items of supportive equipment. And always – always! – remember that whatever the object is, it’s replaceable. Your spine is not.
