With the new crane standards and requirements, are you ensuring that your employees or contractors have the appropriate certifications and/or training? Are your operators qualified/certified? Are your riggers and signal people adequately trained?
I was teaching an OSHA 10 Hour Construction class and this supply truck pulled up right outside our classroom window. Please note that it had snowed the day before and the ground was wet and soft. The operator put a piece of plastic under the outrigger and left it at that. No blocking or any other material was placed under the outrigger foot. A classic case of operator ignorance or stupidity (do not know if he had the knowledge or not). Made for a good example during our class of what not to do.
